Peonies bloom at Wuhan Botanical Garden

Peony flowers are in full bloom at the Wuhan Botanical Garden. By means of transplantation, the interruption of the dormancy of the flowers, and cultivation in the greenhouse, the garden has advanced the florescence of peonies, which is normally in April, to the Spring Festival season. On show are over 40 varieties, including types from France, the U.S., and Japan.

"This year several exhibition halls are set up for the peony show which covers about 600 square meters. The main hall showcases the traditional Chinese garden which is characterized by pavilions, terraces, and towers," said a representative in charge of the garden. In addition to the main hall and another six small theme halls, there is a hall displaying calligraphy works and paintings. Visitors can have pictures taken of themselves dressed in hanfu or holding some traditional Chinese items such as oiled paper umbrellas, calligraphic works, paintings or red lanterns.
